What it is
Communication is not only words.
People continuously communicate through tone, pace, attention, facial expression, silence, nervous system state, and presence.
Often, others respond less to what is being said and more to the emotional and physiological state beneath it.
The practice
During one conversation today, pay attention not only to words, but to the quality of presence.
Notice:
How fast are you speaking?
Is your body tense or open?
Are you listening, or preparing your next response?
What changes when you slow down slightly?
Communication often changes when nervous systems feel safer.
Sometimes understanding begins before solutions do.
