22 VI — Connection to the Living World

Nature Connection

What it is

Human beings evolved in continuous relationship with the living world.

Natural environments regulate attention, calm the nervous system, widen perception, and reconnect people with a slower and more grounded rhythm of experience.

Nature connection is not only aesthetic enjoyment. It is remembering that human beings are also part of living systems.

The practice

Spend a few quiet moments in contact with the natural world today.

A tree. The sky. Rain. Wind. Light moving across a surface. The sound of birds. The movement of water.

Do not turn the moment into a task or achievement.

Simply notice:

What changes in your body?

What happens to your breathing?

What happens to the pace of your mind?

Sometimes the nervous system remembers safety through contact with living environments.
